Down with Fever

On Thursday after winning our 3 man Golf Scramble match I felt i was coming down with a bad cold and fever. So I took in the necessary medications and went to bed at about 11pm while Vina told me not to get up early the next day.

Friday morning my whole body was aching and my nose was dripping wet.I had to cancel my Rotary Club meeting and was in bed throughout that Friday. Apparently even Jigsha, my daughter had the same symptoms and she too was down. I was of no help to Vina in the Motel chores and on Saturday and Sunday felt just a bit better to do the Laundry for the Motel. Just watched 3 Holywood DVDs to while away the time.

Its Monday, not many rooms to do as Sundays are always the slowest night for any Motel. It rained heavily last night - that helped to wash away some of the dirt from the car park.

Our Phillipino Guests check out

Thing and Jimmy(from the Phillipines) who work for a powerline company have been staying with us since Dec 2005 and this morning they checked out as they have been transferred to another site in a different state. It was sad for me to bid farewell to them as we had considered them part of the family. Thing was especially a good friend as he always volunteered to help do odd repair jobs around the motel.

They asked me to keep in touch with them and if ever i visit the Phillipines, I should look them up.

It was a quiet night last night but i had to wake up at 2.20am to check in a family. Another interesting guest was a person who was doing Rt 66 on a bicycle.

The high gas prices are causing a lot of people torestrict their travelling habits so I foresee a drop in guests checking in.

I also received a letter from Rolla Municipal Utilities informing us of a rate hike of 15% from June 1st and another 15% hike from August 1st 2006. Its going to be very difficult to keep our room rates at their present levels - I wonder how our guests will feel when we increase our room rates in the future.

2 guests complimented me on how strong their internet connection was last night.

Finally the long Goodbye hug from Thing made my day.

Hectic weekend

It was a hectic weekend this Easter, as the Desai family arrived at the Rustic to celebrate our family reunion. All in all it was a great event and we hope that more gatherings like this takes place annually.

I had to get up early to drop Jigsha at the St.Louis Airport for her 8.30am flight to Knoxville,TN and on my way back shopped at Sam's Club for some Motel cleaning supplies. Amit and Deepa too drove back to Atlanta,GA this morning. Amit and Kent helped to set up the Motel's Free Wi Fi Servers and a great THANKS is due to Kent, Jigsha's friend from Knoxville who really was the man behind the Installation of every cable and Routers. The whole motel now has excellent Wi Fi signal and so all our guests will be happy.

Amit also helped out by moving the lawn at the front and back. The landscaping will be much better once Vina starts planting her flowers.

Desai family reunion

Welcome to my blog. I'm very new to this (as my daughter, Jigsha, will attest), but she encouraged me to start this blog as a way to let more guests learn about Rustic Motel and also let readers around the world learn about life operating an independent motel.

It's been a busy weekend. My family from all over the United States were here to celebrate my grand-nephew's birthday. It was good to see the family all again. We all live so far apart so it's hard to get together frequently. The visit, while brief, was filled with cake, and braiis (known as barbeques in the U.S.), and just good family time.

Reunion

Most of the family left today and my son, daughter-in-law and daughter leave tomorrow. The house and motel will be quiet then.
